LATIN AMERICA AND CARIBBEAN CONTEMPORARY RECORD

Vol. III 1988–89

edited by James M. Malloy and Eduardo Gamarra

Each LACCR volume opens with thematic essays on significant topics in the region. This year, these include the evolution of Soviet relations, the effects of the United States' "war on drugs," the political role of the military and revolutionary factions, and the impact of the debt crisis on democratization.

Praise for the series:

"A highly readable, estimably useful book for many needs."
—Los Angelos Times

"The volume is well written, and factual accuracy is of a higher order."
—Choice

"The first, and certainly a welcome and needed effort, to provide a comprehensive annual survey of events and trends."
—Caribbean Record

This year's Record includes a well-edited selection of major documents—many of them hard to find, and nowhere else assembled in a single source. Like each annual volume of LACCR, Volume VIII is a fully rewritten, self-contained, comprehensive account which is cross-referenced with preceding volumes.

James M. Malloy, professor of political science at the University of Pittsburgh, is the author of Bolivia: The Uncompleted Revolution and The Politics of Social Security in Brazil.

Eduardo A. Gamarra is Acting Director of Latin American and Caribbean Center at Florida International University. He is coauthor of Revolution and Reaction: Bolivia 1964–1985 and was associate editor of Hemisphere.
